The strange case of ice sticking to (nano)materials

Interaction mechanisms between liquid and solid surfaces in freezing conditions

On October 11th, 6:15 pm, NINE is honoured to host a talk by prof Carlo Antonini on the interaction mechanisms between liquid and solid surfaces in freezing conditions.

Carlo Antonini is associate professor in the Department of Materials Science at the University of Milano-Bicocca. He received the BSc in Aerospace Engineering (2004) and the MSc in Aeronautical Engineering (2007), from Politecnico di Milano, Italy, and the PhD in Technologies for Energy and Environment from University of Bergamo (2011), Italy. In 2012, he moved to ETH Zurich, Switzerland, as a Marie Curie Fellow, and then in 2015 he continued at EMPA – the Swiss Federal Laboratory for Material Science and Technology – as scientist. He joined the University of Milano-Bicocca in 2018 as Rita Levi Montalcini fellow, and since then he leads the Surface Engineering and Fluid Interfaces Laboratory (SEFI Lab).

During the seminar, Carlo Antonini will present his research activities focused on understanding the interaction mechanism between liquid and solid surfaces in freezing conditions. Focus will be given to the effects of surface wetting and topography down to the nanoscale on ice nucleation and on ice adhesion, highlighting the role of environmental conditions where relevant.

The event will be held both in presence and online.

The event is open to all the fellows and alumni NINE. If you are already a fellow, register by using the iscriviti! button in the sidebar.

Registrations will end on the day of the event! 😁

The event is finished.
